Library & Research Help Line

The College Library contains about thirty thousand books. In addition to this, major daily news papers and journals are also made available at the library reading room. The library is used by the members of staff, students of the College, research scholars and other persons specially permitted by the Principal.

Library Works :

  • The library works during the College hours i.e. from 10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M.
  • The library remains close on Sunday and authorized holidays.
  • The last period of every working day is specified for the office work of the Library.
  • Issue of books to the +2 students, reading room for students and reading room for staff members are managed by the Asst. Librarian. computerisation of catalogueing of books is also on progress under the supervision of Asst. Librarian.
  • Issue of books to the +3 students, and stock-verification are supervised by the Asst. Librarian.

Issue of Books :

  • No book should be taken out of the library without the knowledge of the librarian.
  • Each borrower must examine the condition of the books, before they are issued.
  • Books should be returned within the period allowed to a borrower.
  • When the date for return of books falls on an authorized holiday, it should be returned on the very next working day.
  • Library books in possession of borrowers should be returned to the Library before the summer vacation for annual physical stock verification.
  • Anyone who is in possession of library books should return them to the Library whenever he receives a requisition notice from the Librarian.
  • Books taken out of the Library must be returned to the Librarian only.
  • No notes or marking shall be made in the Library books nor shall any picture or pages be removed or torn or disfigured.

  • A member of the teaching staff may, however, keep the reference books of his subject from the Library for prescribed time limit with the prior permission of the Principal.
  • A book once issued to a borrower may be re-issued to him only, if no other borrower demands the same book. Before re-issue, it should be presented before the Librarian for necessary entries in the register.
  • Current issues of periodicals, courses of studies, old questions shall not be issued for use at home without the special permission of the Principal.
  • Library clearance is a must for the students when they will fill up the forms for appearing the Final Examination.

Government Guidelines :

All the rules of the library shall, however, be regulated by the guidelines issued by the Government of Orissa, Dept. of Higher Education to the Principals of all Government Colleges vide the letter No. 62415 (91) HE dt. 02.10.01. The guide lines are :

  • A College teacher can borrow only ten books at a time.
  • Books issued to the College/Junior College teachers shall be returned by the person concerned within 30 days from the date of issue (on the following working day if the due date falls on a holiday)
  • The books borrowed within one week of the commencement of the summer vacation shall be returned by the person concerned within one week of the reopening of the college after summer vacation.
  • Non - Teaching employees can borrow only three books at a time which shall be returned by the person concerned within 15 days from the date of issue.
  • Books issued to a particular person can be reissued only for 2 successive occasions during a particular academic session.
  • In case the Library book issued is lost by the person concerned, the recovery shall be made at the rate of ten times of the cost price of the book.
Library -Fine :

Library books should be returned within a fortnight failing which a fine of one rupee per day per book would be realized from the borrower in whose name the book is issued

News & Magazine Desk :

News papers and Journals are displayed in the News and Magazine desk under the supervision of the Librarian

Book Bank :

  • The book bank contains about one thousand books.
  • The Book Bank lends text books to poor and deserving students under the supervision of Asst. Librarian.
  • The borrower shall have to pay one tenth of the price of the book before the book is issued to him. The Book Bank fee is to be collected by the cash counter on the recommendation of the librarian.
  • The borrower of the book will be held responsible for any damage or distortion of the book. In case the book is lost he may be asked to pay the price of the book at the rate of ten times of the cost price of the book.
  • The borrower shall have to return the book to the Lending Library before Test Examination. First year students of +2 and +3 shall have to return the books soon after their Annual Examination is over.

Reading Room :

Reading rooms, one for the staff members and another for students separately have been temporarily provided to cater to urgent academic need of the staff and students during college hours. The following rules are binding upon all categories of readers.

  • The reading rooms shall remain open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on all working days or otherwise notified for the purpose.
  • Each reader must produce his/her Identity Card and Library Card at the time of issue of books, journals, news papers etc. and sign the call slip.
  • Those who are not in possession of Identity Cards shall not be allowed to enter the Reading Rooms.
  • All readers must maintain silence inside the reading rooms. Breach of silence shall lead to expulsion of readers from the reading rooms. Silence should also be maintained inside the library.
  • Anyone found tampering with books/journals /newspaper in any form shall be penalized and shall not be allowed to enter the Reading Room in future.

Research Help Line :

It is proposed to provide reference and research facilities to the staff members. Computer and electronic typing and xerox - aid centre is likely to work under the supervision of Asst. Librarian. All concerned users are requested to follow the notes issued by the library committee from time to time concerning, purchase of books, newspapers and journals, development of library, maintenance of discipline, catalogueing of books etc.
